| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Turning Against the West--
Using Japanese archive footage and interviews with both prisoners and their guards, this film investigates why, having treated their POW's comparatively well during World War I, their attitudes had altered so dramatically by World War II.;---
Death Before Surrender--
Conclusion of a two-part documentary on Japan at war, examining why, when the Second World War turned against Japan, so many Japanese soldiers chose death rather than surrender. Archive footage and interviews with veterans form a comprehensive portrait of a nation in crisis, revealing how Japan's inability to surrender would have terrible consequences for all the countries touched by the war in the East.;---
The Forgotten Volunteers--
This programme investigates the fate of the two-and-a-half million Indians who fought for Britain during the Second World War. It looks at how they were forgotten by Britain, and disowned by India after the war and faced racism and prejudice. ;---
Burma: The Forgotten War--
Valiant efforts by British and Empire troops, mainly Indian, left a country that soon gained independence and with it, military dictatorship. The Allied victory (because there was some U.S. involvement) was, whatever the ultimate fate of Burma, 'a truly great feat of arms'. In his giant canvas of battles and Japanese atrocities, of Kohima and the infamous Burma-Thailand railway, Mr Latimer never loses track of individual soldiers and civilians. This not only gives a very human touch to his story of ultimate victory wrenched form initial disaster but provides a structure that holds the vast story together.
