| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - v.1: This is the first volume of six (excluding the compilers' first book), published by the Veterans Federation of the Philippines. The whole series consists essentially of documents (all published before, in other compilations) and data culled essentially from published sources, with a few unpublished sources cited. This volume is in two parts: Part One on the defense campaign, with a chronology of Philippine history from the inauguration of the Commonwealth through the war years, focusing on activities in northern Luzon (it seems to be a reprint from the compilers' first book), and a reprint of General Wainwright's report (previously published by Col. Ancheta; original source not cited). Part II is composed of short histories of various guerrilla units throughout the Philippines, mostly culled from Willoughby's book ("The Guerilla Resistance Movement in the Philippines"), with a few interesting bits and pieces added. Also in Part Two are reprints (from Willoughby, although not acknowledged) of Villamor's and Emigdio Cruz's reports, and a list of submarines which provided assistance to the guerrillas (the so-called guerrilla submarines) (original source not cited, as with most of the primary documents published). Also published the list of military prisoners in Bilibid (reprinted from Col. Gustavo Ingles' "Memoirs of Pain"; this list is also reprinted in Volume 4 of the series, based on the original mimeographed list). (Unfortunately the compilers, all World War II veterans, did not write their own memoirs, which would have been more interesting than reprinting already published documents). - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
- Summary, etc. - v.2: Publishes partial lists of Filipino war dead, with the bulk being those who died in Camp O'Donnell prison camp in Capas, Tarlac (including burial data in the Libingan ng Bayani, the Philippines' official cemetery for heroes). A few additional pages list some of the guerrillas who died in other parts of the Philippines during the war. Lists were from the Quartermaster Graves Registration unit of the Philippine Army and from guerrilla reports. Second volume of six. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
- Summary, etc. - v.3: This volume, the third of the series, is in three parts: a Historical Narrative which is an original piece of work by the authors; part II which reprints the US Army Forces in the Philippines, North Luzon (USAFIP NL) After Battle Report and part III which reprints USAFIP NL General Orders No. 6 (both of these were reprinted twice before by Col. Ancheta and also printed in volume I of this series). - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
- Summary, etc. - v.4: This volume presents some original material, unlike the previous volumes which reprint various documents. The focus is on military operations and guerrilla groups in the region spelled out in the title, beginning with a historical narrative recounting the beginning of the war. The volume reprints Gen. Albert Jones' report of operation of the South Luzon Force (previously published by Col. Ancheta; no credit is given to him), and then moves into brief histories of the various guerrilla groups in the region (based mainly on Gen. Willoughby's book and published sources). Reprints lists of Chinese guerrilla casualties and military prisoners of the Japanese in Bilibid Prison. Fourth volume in the series. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
- Summary, etc. - v.5: Fifth in this series, this volume is in three parts: first, a historical narrative which is partly a chronology and partly a narrative; part II, which reprints Gen. Wainwright's report of operations of the US Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE) and US Forces in the Philippines (USFIP) (previously published by Col. Ancheta). Part III is composed of brief histories of Luzon-based guerrilla units, mostly based on Gen. Willoughby's book (some, or most, previously published in earlier volumes). - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
- Summary, etc. - v.6: Volume Six of the series "World War II in the Philippines," this work is a compilation of various documents, in five parts. Part I is a historical summary of the war in the region the volume covers (compiled by the editors, all of who are World War II veterans). Part II reprints Gen. William F. Sharp's Historical Report on the operations of the Visayas-Mindanao Force (which was first published by New Day as part of the "Wainwright papers," edited by Col. Celedonio A. Ancheta). Part III consists of summary histories of the major guerrilla organizations in the Visayas-Mindanao area (the report for Negros - the 7th Military District - was originally published in Col. Salvador Abcede's "They Chose to Fight"). Part IV provides documentation of the Allied Intelligence Bureau and submarine penetration missions from Australia (reprints, without crediting original source [Gen. Willoughby's book on the "Philippines Guerrilla Resistance Movement"], the reports of Major Jesus Villamor, and Dr. Emigdio Cruz); also reprints the list of special mission submarines published in Roscoe's book US Submarine Operations in World War II. Part V is a very incomplete list of the war dead in the Visayas-Mindanao area, original source not cited. Many typographical errors mar this attempt to make available this compilation of important but mixed documents. Absence of source credits also hinders interested researches from checking the authenticity of the information presented. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
