General Note
  • General note - The belen is a tableau that represents the Nativity scene. It derived its name from the Spanish word for Bethlehem. This tradition originated from Italy, where St. Francis of Assisi created the first Nativity scene which included live donkeys and oxen. It was adopted in Spain and Mexico and finally came to the Philippines in the 1700s. (Source: Pasko! The Philippine Christmas, Reynaldo Alejandro and Marla Chorengel, 1998) YYY
