Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Compilation of papers presented in a two-day conference in Manila, held at the National Historical Institute on 4-5 February 2005, covering various aspects of the war. Some of the presentations are by eyewitnesses; others are researched accounts. Survivors of the Battle of Manila (Ambassador Isabel Caro Wilson and Dr. Benito J. Legarda Jr.) write about their own experiences and the Battle for Manila. Six papers are accounts by former guerrillas (Hunters ROTC, Wha Chi, Hukbalahap); a former “comfort woman” recounts her ordeal; and the son of guerrilla leader Manuel Colayco writes about his father’s role in the liberation of Santo Tomas Internment Camp. Papers by historians deal with life in Japanese occupied Manila; Japanese plans to defend Manila; the USAFIP NL guerrilla organization and the Kempeitai. Two presentations are in Filipino; the rest are in English. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
