| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Account of the pre-war and wartime life of Ma. Elena Lizarraga, a young woman of Spanish descent who lived in Ermita.
Based on her recollections, and written in Spanish (Ms. Lizarraga now lives in Spain), the book narrates the idyllic life of the Lizarragas before the war (her father was in the perfumery business) and the sudden change that war brought. Ms. Lizarraga (she was a young wife by then, married to Jose Maldonado, a Spanish aristocrat) and her sisters were among those victimized by the Japanese in the Battle of Manila in 1945; her younger sister, father and other relatives and friends were brutally killed. Ms. Lizarraga was herself wounded. The horrors of their experiences were used as evidence in the war crimes trials after the war. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
