Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Personal account of an American woman who joined the US Army's Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (later the Women's Auxiliary Corps) in 1943. She describes her training, stateside assignments and duty overseas, in the South Pacific. She trained as a cryptanalyst and was assigned with MacArthur's General Headquarters in Hollandia, New Guinea, in late 1944, and in San Miguel, Tarlac, from June 1945, and briefly in La Salle College in Manila in October 1945. She writes about her (and her fellow WACs) adventures and observations of new places and new people, including the ruins of Manila. Only briefly does she mention her actual work: trying to break Japanese codes. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
