Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - First comprehensive and documented history of this heretofore unknown and thus unsung elite unit of the US Army in World War II. This military organization was organized by Gen. Walter Krueger in 1943 to assist his 6th Army in obtaining intelligence and striking behind Japanese lines. The author, a freelance writer, did groundbreaking research on the unit for his MA thesis. Expanding on this and writing for a more popular audience resulted in this book. The Alamo Scouts performed several daring missions in the Philippines in 1944 and 1945, the most famous being the raid on Cabanatuan prisoner of war camp. But the men also handled secret missions in Leyte and elsewhere in Luzon, which are detailed in this book. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
