Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Waldron was a private and just 19 years old when the war started; he was a gunner in Battery Chicago, an anti-aircraft battery on Corregidor. He narrates pre-war life on the island fortress; the start of the war; combat on Corregidor and fighting in the last day. (His account of the final battle in his battery, however, has been questioned.) He details the ordeals he experienced as a prisoner of war on Corregidor's 92nd Garage area, Bilibid, Cabanatuan; hell ship to Japan, and forced labor in Japan until the end of the war. He vividly describes his guards and those who were particularly inhuman. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
