Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - One of a series of action-packed battle histories on the Pacific War, full of imagined conversations and invented human interest, loosely based on documentary and published sources. This volume focuses on the naval battle of Samar, in October 25, 1944, between the Japanese forces under Adm. Takeo Kurita and the US escort carrier groups under Adm. Clifton Sprague. Cortesi takes liberties with what happened, and there are numerous factual and spelling errors. (He lists several Japanese language books in his bibliography but apparently does not read Japanese). Other volumes by Cortesi on the Battle of Leyte Gulf focus on the Battles of Surigao Strait and Sibuyan Sea, among others. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
