  • Summary, etc. - Personal account of an American who joined the US Army during the Great Depression. He was assigned to the Philippines and at the outbreak of the war was helping to train Filipino soldiers in the 71st Division (Philippine Army). He fought with his unit in Northern Luzon, was cut off by the quickness of the Japanese advance, but made it to Bataan, only to have to surrender and march the Death March. Escaping the march, he made his way to northern Luzon and organized a guerrilla group, which affiliated with the US Army Forces in the Philippines, Northern Luzon. He narrates his close calls, his actions against the Japanese particularly in 1945, when he was commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, USAFIP NL. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
