| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - This volume presents extracts of interviews conducted by the editors of American veterans who were taken prisoner by the Japanese in Asia and the Pacific in 1941-1942.
Fifty two interviews were chosen out of some one hundred and fifty, and of these, over half saw action in and were captured in various locations in the Philippines. The editors arranged narratives by subject, such as capture, adjustment to Prisoner of War status, life in the various camps and so on, allowing comparison of different individual observations and reactions. A common feature of all the veterans was their intense dedication to survive.
Since the book focuses on the POW experience, it does not include details of the battles that were fought. The three editors are history professors and had conducted interviews of veterans for some time; LaForte and Marcello had previously published similar books on the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Death Railway in Burma. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
