  • Summary, etc. - Personal account by a teenager who joined the Army Air Corps in 1940. He was sent to the Philippines as the supply sergeant of the 10th Pursuit Squadron, based at Clark Field. He witnessed the bombing of Clark Field, saw action in Bataan and marched the Death March. He vividly describes his life as a prisoner of war in Camp O'Donnell, the Tayabas work detail, Bilibid, Cabanatuan, and then shipment to Japan and forced labor in the coal mines of Omuta, Japan. Of his squadron, only sixty five returned home. After the war, Jacobsen became a professor of education at the University of Utah. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
