- Summary, etc. - Memoir of an internee at Santo Tomas. The author was the daughter of a US consular official in Shanghai: she describes pre-war Shanghai life, which was destroyed when the Sino-Japanese war broke out. She and her family evacuated to Manila to escape the Japanese, but were caught there by the start of the war. Interned at Santo Tomas, she and her family (being diplomats) were repatriated in 1942.
This book was published in 1943 and was one of the first to deal with conditions in internment camp. Being a wartime book, it was subject to censorship. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
