Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - War experiences of a young American who enlisted in the US Army in 1940, was shipped out to the Philippines in October 1941 and assigned to the Fifth Air Base Group. He was in Mindanao when the war started, and tells of his hauling supplies around that island, including Moro territory, during the Philippine defense campaign. He was taken prisoner after the fall of Corregidor, and was imprisoned in Camp Casisang in Malaybalay and later in Davao Penal Colony. Sent by hell ship to Japan in 1944, he was forced to work on Japanese railroads before being liberated. He kept a diary in secret and quotes from it extensively in this book. A roster of the men in his unit is provided, with details on who did not survive the war. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
