Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Col. Quinn was Chief of Transportation of the Bataan Force in 1942, when Bataan fell. This book is a chronicle of his experiences as a prisoner of war, and begins from the fall of Bataan. As a senior officer, Quinn was taken to Camp O'Donnell in a convoy of cars, conveying other ranking Luzon Force officers. He was moved to Tarlac after about a month, and then taken to Taiwan on one of the earliest prisoner of war ships, in 1942. He ended the war in a camp in Mukden, Manchuria. His diary documents the daily concerns, incidents with the Japanese, events, and thoughts of the officers as prisoners of war, writing in Philippine school notebooks concealed from the Japanese. Occasionally he comments on the defense campaign and officers involved in it. He began the diary as a letter to his wife, whose nickname was Mike. He was liberated by Russians in 1945, brought to Okinawa and then to Manila, from where he was repatriated to the US, where he was reunited with his wife. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
