Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - The author, a British journalist, presents the horrors of Allied prisoners of war (British, Australian, American and Dutch) under the Japanese, focusing on those captured in the Singapore campaign and forced to work on the notorious Thai-Burma Railway. He does include some mention of the Bataan Death March (pp. 7-13) and hell ships from the Philippines (pp. 298-308, on the Oryoku Maru and subsequent ships). One is thus able to compare the experiences of prisoners in different areas in Southeast Asia, noting particularly similarities in treatment. Based on first-hand accounts, diaries and interviews. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
