Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Personal account of an American officer (a major) describing his prisoner of war ordeal. The book begins with the Death March, then describes conditions in Camp O'Donnell, Davao Penal Colony, Cabanatuan, the hell ship Oryoku Maru, and prison camp in Fukuoka. He quotes heavily from an article, "Voyage of the Death Ships," written by correspondent George Weller of the Chicago Daily Tribune. While he does not write about actual combat experiences or identifies his unit, the book contains some interesting photographs of the author before the war, with Philippine Army troops in Bontoc, and with artillery pieces and a staff car. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
