Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - This book is on the daring and dramatic escape by Jordan A. Hamner, a young American mining engineer caught by the war in Masbate. Together with two other Americans, Hamner took a small boat and sailed to Panay, Mindanao and then the long and dangerous voyage to Australia. Based on Hamner's own unpublished account (and told with Hamner in the first person), the long trip is detailed, with additional information from Stahl and others who knew Hamner. An epilogue rounds up Hamner's account: he joined the US Army, volunteered for further service in the Philippines, was sent by submarine to Tawi-Tawi as one of MacArthur's agents. Stahl, who was one of MacArthur's intelligence operatives, knew Hamner and his companions personally, edited the final manuscript, verified facts, and added details and information. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
