Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Biography of Florencio Medina, a Filipino scientist (he became chairman of the National Science Development Board in 1970) who was also an army officer, rising to the rank of brigadier general in 1968. The biography, written by his son and based on his father's wartime memoirs, devotes much attention to the war experiences of Medina and his family: Medina was a staff officer in Mindanao, prisoner of war, and guerrilla intelligence operative in Mindoro. He details the many dangers and close calls experienced, and his role in sparing Calapan from Japanese retribution. He also narrates the differences among guerrilla leaders. After retirement, Gen. Medina and his family went to live in the US. Medina's wartime memoir was edited and expanded by his son, a retired US Navy technician. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
