Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Researched account of the renowned Philippine Army divisions on Bataan commanded by Brig. Gen. Vicente Lim, the first Filipino to graduate from West Point. The division, composed of reservists from the South Luzon region, reached Bataan intact, without having seen action, but stood its ground on the Abucay Line, winning recognition as the "Rock of Bataan." It also held up against Japanese onslaughts in the Pilar-Bagac Line, only to be ordered to surrender when the Japanese penetrated the neighboring division's line. Provides much information on the Filipino officers and men in Bataan. Surviving officers and men were interviewed in the preparation of this work, and with information from unpublished reports (among them Gen. Rigoberto Atienza's detailed memoir, which has since been published). Provides lists of awardees and officers of the division. This volume was one of a series published under the direction of the Office of the Chief of Historical Activities, Armed Forces of the Philippines. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
