Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Saga of Galen Charles Kittleson, a young American who volunteered for the US Army in 1943. Only nineteen years old, he fought in the South Pacific and his courage was noticed by his superiors. He was chosen for the elite Alamo Scouts, landed behind enemy lines in Mindanao even as the Leyte campaign was just beginning, to contact guerrilla forces. He was a key player in the raid on Cabanatuan prisoner of war camp, in which surviving members of the Bataan and Corregidor campaign were on the verge of death. The Cabanatuan Raid serves as the highlight of this book. After this significant raid, Kittleson participated in other raids by the Alamo Scouts afterwards. He was honorably discharged at the end of the war, bemedalled. During the Korean War, he enlisted and joined the Special Forces. He participated in several raids in Vietnam, including the daring but unsuccessful attempt to free American POWs at the Son Tay prison.
