| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - This is the first comprehensive book on the subject of women forced into sexual slavery to serve Japanese soldiers. Although mentioned briefly in various works in earlier years, the extent and systematic forcible recruitment and rape were not fully revealed to the English speaking world until the early 1990s, and the author, through his network of connections in Japan and Southeast Asia, was able to obtain and have translated important reports and primary documents. The book details and documents the origins and development of the system of enforced prostitution by the Japanese government, and publicizes the personal experiences of several of the women who were victimized. It also discusses the campaign for justice by the comfort women and women's groups. Contains a few inaccuracies, though, when not quoting from direct sources. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
