Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Not a diary written at the time the events occurred, but an illustrated memoir written by a Filipino teenager who was taken by the Japanese Army in Leyte and forced to become a "comfort woman", or sex slave. The memoir and its illustrations were written in the 1990s after Lila Filipina, a women's rights group in the Philippines, took up the campaign to seek justice for Filipina victims of Japanese military sexual crimes. The narrative was originally written in Filipino, the Philippine national language, and is reproduced here with Lola Remedios' drawings, along with English and Japanese translations. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
