Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Personal account by one of the eleven US Navy nurses captured by the Japanese in 1942. Danner became a Navy nurse in 1937, was sent to the Philippines in 1940, and saw the destruction of Cavite Navy Yard by Japanese planes from nearby Cañacao Naval Hospital. The hospital was moved to Santa Scholastica's College in Manila, and stayed there until the Japanese took over the city. The Navy nurses were later moved to Santo Tomas Internment Camp, and later to Los Baños, where they were rescued by a daring parachute and land raid. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
