Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Personal memoir of a professional US Army officer (a West Point graduate) who was an artillery officer on Corregidor. He begins his story with the surrender, and early days in Camp O'Donnell and Cabanatuan. He and several other prisoners from Corregidor were returned to the island fort to salvage what they could. After this detail, the prisoners were returned to Cabanatuan. In December 1944, he was brought to Bilibid and loaded on the notorious Oryoku Maru. He narrates the hell ship voyage in detail, as well as his detail on Corregidor and life in Cabanatuan, based on a diary he kept. (The book is not the diary itself, despite the title). - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
