Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - A journalistic account of General MacArthur and the campaigns he fought up to early 1944, prior to the General's return to the Philippines. The author was a noted American war correspondent who was very familiar with the Asian world and military affairs. Here he writes of MacArthur close up, since he had been assigned to cover the fighting in the Southwest Pacific area. Almost half of the book deals with the defense of the Philippines, giving some interesting details, but not critical of MacArthur. Since the book was published in 1944, it was subject to censorship and was meant to bolster American morale; it praises MacArthur's command in Luzon in 1942, in Australia and the New Guinea campaign. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
