Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Compilation of newspaper and magazine articles by Col. Ongpauco, a PC officer , Bataan veteran and keeper of the records at Camp O'Donnell. The articles, vignettes about World War II incidents and personalities, mostly military, cover the defense of the Philippines, the Death March and Prisoner of War camp, guerrilla and liberation operations. Ongpauco knew the people he wrote about personally and had access to some of their papers; he also wrote about some of the Americans and Japanese he met. Among the persons he wrote about were former President Ferdinand Marcos, Jose Calugas, the Medal of Honor hero, generals and noncommissioned officers. The section on the Death March and prisoner of war camp is illustrated by pencil sketches which were drawn by the author. Statistics from the prisoner of war camp at Camp O'Donnell are presented as an appendix. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
