Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Subtitle on book jacket: "A Firsthand Account of 42 Months of Imprisonment in Japanese Hands." Personal account of a US Army (reserve) medical doctor, beginning with the surrender on Bataan. Goodman was then working in General Hospital No. 1, and he narrates conditions in the hospital at the end of the siege and when the Japanese took over. The doctors and their patients were allowed to remain in Bataan until after the fall of Corregidor, when they were taken to Camp O'Donnell by truck. Goodman details particularly life as a doctor without medicine in Cabanatuan, a detail in Caloocan, then Taiwan and finally Japan proper. Published in 1972, the author attempted to be more objective and tried to stick to facts rather than keep up hatred and bitter emotions. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
