Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Account of an Australian soldier - Staff Sgt. Cecil Dickson - who was dispatched with his unit to Java as part of a reinforcing force to stop the Japanese onslaught. Dickson's unit, together with scattered American units, was instead captured and he became a prisoner of war, enduring untold hardships under the Japanese. He was one of those who worked on the Death Railway linking Burma and Thailand. This book is based on the letters and other writings of Sgt. Dickson, who was a journalist by profession and kept detailed notes. The title comes from the number of bowls he ate as a prisoner of war. Linda Holmes, the author, has written other works on POWs of the Japanese. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
