Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Dramatic personal story of a young American woman who had gone to China as a journalist, only to be forced out by the Japanese invasion. She and her husband went to Manila in 1940; she taught English at the University of the Philippines and broadcasted the news over Radio Manila. Realizing that she would be wanted by the Japanese when the war began, she and her husband escaped to the mountains and sought refuge there with the Negritos. They remained there, evading the Japanese and getting in touch with Filipino guerillas for a year and a half. Unfortunately, they were captured by the Japanese, imprisoned in Malolos and eventually brought to Santo Tomas Internment Camp. Later, she and her husband were transferred to Los BaƱos, where they were liberated in 1945. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
