| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Story of Isla Corfield and her daughter, both evacuating Shanghai for India but caught in Manila where their ship was diverted. Being British nationals, the two were interned in Santo Tomas Internment Camp. Writer Lucas retraces their experiences through the notebooks kept by Isla Corfield during the entire period of internment, covering the shock of war, the feeling of helplessness being in a strange land and not having any friends. Is more critical of camp administration (by Americans) than most Santo Tomas memoirs. The Corfields were transferred to Los BaƱos in July 1944, and were liberated in February 1945 in a daring air and ground assault. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
