| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Autobiography of an American woman whose husband was a businessman in Manila at the outbreak of the war. Her husband was interned in Santo Tomas Internment Camp, while Frieda was allowed to remain outside since she was expecting. When she gave birth, her husband was allowed to visit her; but after five months, Frieda had to enter Santo Tomas. Her baby was left with friends in the meantime. The Japanese occupation and life in Santo Tomas is the highlight of this memoir, and the author describes the day-to-day life with the help of Frederic Stevens' classic book (she knew him personally and helped hide his notes). She narrates the excitement at being liberated, and then continues on with life after the war, several years of which were spent in Peru and Oregon. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
