| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Personal account by an American naval officer (he was executive officer of the gunboat Mindanao), told with humor and hope. McCracken begins his account with the surrender of Corregidor, and describes the imprisonment and how they dealt with the Japanese in Corregidor, the gloat march through Manila (where Filipinos whispered "Help is on the way very soon now, Joe"), life in Camp O'Donnell, Cabanatuan, Davao Penal Colony and finally Bilibid, where he was liberated in February 1945. McCracken was a US Naval Academy graduate, had very interesting experiences on his ship on its way from China to the Philippines just prior to the war, and saw much action in the defense of Bataan and Corregidor. Unfortunately, he does not write about those in this book. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
