| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - A Japanese writer's reportage on the Japanese campaign in Bataan. Hino was a noted Japanese writer and war correspondent since the late 1930s, covering the Sino-Japanese War. He came to the Philippines in March 1942 to witness the final Japanese offensive against the Fil-American forces. In this book are articles he wrote about his reaction to the start of the war, the front lines of Bataan, the Japanese victory, and a conversation with Gen. Mateo Capinpin in Camp O'Donnell (Capinpin details the final days of the battle and his own march to Capas). An article comparing the Philippines with Manchukuo (Japanese-occupied Manchuria) is also included. All the articles were previously published in Japanese periodicals; half the book contains the Japanese edition. This book was approved by Japanese censors and was used as propaganda during the occupation. The Japanese translator credits (later National Artist) Hernando R. Ocampo with assisting in the preparation of the book. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
