Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Personal account augmented by serious research by one German Jew and his family who escaped the Nazi death camps and sought refuge in the Philippines on the eve of the war with Japan. Ephraim narrates their family's experience, placing it in perspective in light of President Quezon's and American policy towards the Jewish refugees. Quezon was open to accepting the Jews, while the US State Department was less welcoming. Ephraim documents the saga of the Jewish refugees, their welcome by the local Jewish community, and goes into detail regarding their experiences during the Japanese occupation. Well researched, this is a pioneering work combining personal and family history with serious archival documentation. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
