| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Bessie Hackett was an American journalist, born in Zamboanga, with the Manila Bulletin before World War II. In this oral history (part of a series conducted by Philippine specialist Onorato), she discusses life in the Philippines before, during and after the war; she narrates her wartime experiences on pages 11-17 - learning about the war; covering it in Manila in the early days; internment in Santo Tomas and eventual liberation. While in Santo Tomas, she typed out news summaries from information smuggled from outside the walls; she also wrote out reports about life in Santo Tomas which were supposedly taken out of the Philippines by submarine. She got married in 1956. This interview was conducted in the US in 1987. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
