General Note
  • General note - An autobiography of a man who skilfully fought the Japanese during the occupation and, after independence, led the guerrilla war against his nation's leaders. - Roderick Hall
Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Personal account of the leader of the wartime Hukbong Bayan Laban sa Hapon (Hukbalahap, or Huk in short; People's Army against Japan) and the postwar Hukbong Mapagpalaya sa Bayan (HMB; People's Liberation Army), focusing on Taruc's activities against the Philippine government from 1946 through his surrender and imprisonment in the 1950s. Written in a prison cell and sent out to a British ex-Communist, Douglas Hyde, in London, the manuscript was assembled by Hyde and published in the US and London. Taruc also writes of the problems of the Filipino peasants, his laments about errors made in the Huk campaign, and his being born again as a Christian while in prison. (His World War II years are covered in greater detail in an earlier book, published in India, entitled "Born of the People"). - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
