Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Popularly written account of the US Navy submarines sent on "special missions" particularly to the Philippines to provide support to guerrillas or land intelligence teams. Plays up the role of Lieutenant Charles E. "Chick" Parsons in coordinating the missions and getting in the Philippines on several occasions. (Chick's photo on the bridge of a submarine is published, although he is not identified). The book is based on action reports filed by the submarines' skippers, conversations with some of the commanders and crews. One of the authors (Dissette) commanded USS Cero and landed Lt. Vanderpool in southern Luzon in November 1944; the other author, H.C. Adamson, was a known Navy writer. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
