Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Detailed history of the guerrilla resistance movement in what was called the 7th Military District under Col. Salvador Abcede. Covers the defense preparations, the Japanese onslaught and negotiations for surrender (including the killing of Filipino surrender envoys by a Filipino who refused to surrender), organization and development of the resistance forces. Baclagon goes on to discuss the various regiments, the arrival of Maj. Jesus Villamor by submarine; and the organization of a civil government in the free areas. He concludes with the return of the Americans and discussion on the role of the guerrilla's in the liberation campaign. The author was part of this unit and knew the officers and events personally; he became one of the recognized military historians in the Philippines. Appendices include historical reports, proclamations and other guerrilla documents, and rosters of officers and men killed, wounded, missing in action or captured by the Japanese. - Prof. Ricardo T.
