Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Detailed scholarly history and analysis of the Japanese occupation of Leyte, with particular focus on the resistance movement, its problems, organization, social impact, economics, education and operations. The author was a member of the liberating forces that landed in Leyte in early 1945, after most of the fighting was over. He had ample chances to get to know the people, including guerrilla and political leaders, and was able to compile historical records relating to the occupation and resistance movement. After the war, the author became a university professor and wrote the basis of this book as his master's thesis (He later wrote a Ph.D. dissertation focusing on the dynamics of rival guerrilla organizations in Leyte). This research sets a standard for research that has not been matched, and serves as a microcosm through which the Japanese occupation of the Philippines can be analyzed. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
