| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - War memoirs of a Filipino boy just entering his teens in Manila. The author's father was the director of the Bureau of Fisheries before the war and had warned of Japanese spies posing as fishermen. Because of this, it was feared that he was on the Japanese want list and once war started, the family evacuated to Navotas and Malabon initially, before moving to relatives in various towns in Batangas. When conditions stabilized, and the return of the Americans was imminent, the Villadolids returned to Manila and stayed near St. Scholastica College until the Battle for Manila, where the author and his family joined the guerrillas and American soldiers in reducing the Japanese stronghold in Rizal Stadium. He also talks about life in immediate postwar Manila. After the war, Villadolid became a noted journalist. This book is the war years part of his autobiography, which is not available to the public. There are a number of factual errors, particular in events not experienced directly by the author. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
