Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - First book-length account of the Battle for Manila in February 1945 and its atrocities, focusing on the Spaniards who were caught in the battle.
The author was a renowned Spanish writer and journalist whose father had worked in Manila. His brother was one of the Spaniards killed in the battle. Perez came to Manila to interview survivors just after the fighting, and thus wrote a detailed account while memories were still very fresh and the smoke of battle still in the air.
Appendices provide eyewitness testimony of massacres and destruction, and a list of Spaniards killed during the war. Since this book is in Spanish, it did not receive the attention it deserved outside of Spain and readers of Spanish; it was translated into English and published in 2005 as "Terror in Manila." - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
