Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - First person account by the senior American adviser to the 21st Field Artillery Regiment, 21st Division, Philippine Army. MallonĂ©e was a professional army officer, and he recorded his experiences from the mobilization of his regiment, through its battles in Northern Luzon and into Bataan, the Bataan campaign and the eventual surrender. These cover more than half the book; the remaining half details the Death March and life in prison camp. MallonĂ©e's diary was one of the few which went into substantial detail on the defense campaign, and while used by historians, was not published. His son, the editor of the book, decided to publish parts of the diary, edited, with additional notes and background information. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
