| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Adrian Raphael Martin was the author's uncle who he never knew. The elder Martin was drafted and assigned to the Philippines with the 200th Coast Artillery Regiment, a New Mexico National Guard unit (Martin was from Wisconsin), and fought in the defense of the Philippines in Clark Field and Bataan. He was one of the thousands who had to surrender in April 1942, and did the Death March. He survived the Philippine prison camps in Camp O'Donnell, Cabanatuan and Las PiƱas, as well as the hell ship voyage to Japan (on board the Noto Maru), but died in Japan before the war ended. Adrian Robert Martin, the author, is an educator and extensively researched his uncle's story through interviews with veterans and archival research. Through this book, he keeps his uncle's memory alive. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
