Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - The first, and probably most reliable of several books written about the adventures of Commander Charles "Chick" Parsons. Parsons, a reserve US Navy officer, escaped internment by the Japanese by using his position as honorary consul of Panama. While living in Japanese-occupied Manila, he collected intelligence about Japanese policies and conditions in the city. Repatriated to the US in mid-1942, he submitted a report to Washington, D.C.. Having lived in the Philippines much of his life, and familiar with the terrain, waters and people of the archipelago, he was sent to MacArthur's headquarters and helped organize submarine "special missions" to reinforce guerrillas in the Philippines, as well as evacuate Americans from potential capture by the Japanese. As head of the Spy Squadron (Spyron), Parsons personally accompanied the submarines on many of their trips, and spent much time in Mindanao and other islands trying to coordinate the guerrilla resistance movement and acquire intelligence for MacArthur's headquarters. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
