Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Personal account of an American soldier with an anti-aircraft unit stationed in Corregidor at the start of the war. Graham's battery was moved to Clark Field at the start of the war, and withdrew to Bataan; it was then brought back to Corregidor where it stayed until the surrender. Graham writes about his wartime experiences and the surrender, and then narrates his experiences as a prisoner of war. With the other Corregidor prisoners, he had to go with the Japanese "victory march" in Manila, was transferred by train to Cabanatuan, where he witnessed cruelties and executions meted out by the Japanese. He served on the Lipa airfield detail, and was brought to Taiwan and then to Japan on hell ships. In Japan, he was forced to work in the mines. He concludes with the end of the war and liberation, his return to the Philippines for processing, and then the trip back to the US. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
