Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Saga of the ninety-nine American nurses – Army and Navy – who were thrust into World War II in Bataan and Corregidor. Their efforts to save the lives of wounded Americans and Filipinos earned them the name “Angels of Bataan and Corregidor.” A few were evacuated before the fall of Corregidor, but seventy-seven were taken prisoner with the surrender of General Wainwright. Norman is a registered nurse whose mother was a nurse in the Coast Guard during World War II; she interviewed Vietnam era nurses and published their story in an earlier book. In this book, she brings to life the stories of these ninety-nine nurses utilizing letters, documents, and interviews with most of the surviving nurses she was able to locate. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
