| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Personal memoir of a young lady born in Manila of Basque parents. She paints a nostalgic picture of Manila before the war, her family and growing up in the city.
The author devotes the bulk of her book on the Japanese occupation and the Battle of Manila. Being of Spanish citizenship, the Echevarria family was allowed to stay where they were and thus witnessed the Japanese occupation first hand. Living in Singalong, the author witnessed houses on fire, shells fly overhead and dead bodies.
Detailed and careful reportage of how the world she had known was lost forever. As with many other survivors of the Battle for Manila, it took her over fifty years to be able to write down her memories of the tragedy. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
