- Summary, etc. - Memoir by a US Marine who was with the 4th Marine Regiment. The regiment had been stationed in Shanghai but had been pulled out to the Philippines a few weeks before the war. Versaw describes his experiences in the defense of the Philippines - the start of the war, service in Corregidor - and gives much focus on his life as a prisoner of war of the Japanese, in Bilibid, Cabanatuan, hell ship Nagata Maru, and forced labor in Japan.
