Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Memoir by a US Marine who was with the 4th Marine Regiment. The regiment had been stationed in Shanghai but had been pulled out to the Philippines a few weeks before the war. Versaw describes his experiences in the defense of the Philippines - the start of the war, service in Corregidor - and gives much focus on his life as a prisoner of war of the Japanese, in Bilibid, Cabanatuan, hell ship Nagata Maru, and forced labor in Japan. (His experiences, as well as the saga of his unit, the 4th Marines Band, is told in greater detail in his other book, "The Last China Band") - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
