| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - The first comprehensive book on Philippine military history - specifically the campaigns and battles fought - by a Filipino soldier-historian. Col. Baclagon served as an officer in the defense of Negros, and subsequently as a ranking member of the 7th Military District, the guerrilla organization in Negros. He worked in the Historical Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and was sent to the US to conduct research for this book, which became the standard military history for many years. It covers battles and campaigns from Mactan (1521) to World War II. Around two-thirds of the book is on World War II, going into detail on the defense campaign, the guerrilla resistance movement in various islands, and the liberation campaigns. Gives his comments and critique after each chapter, as well as sources used. Useful maps, taken (without full acknowledgement) from the US Military Academy's history of World War II in the Pacific. Written in classic military history style, focusing on units and military operations. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
